Takayama is nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains. There are only two ways in and out, and to get there you take a slow train that winds through the mountains. Due to its isolation, the city has retained many old-style buildings and much of its original layout, and is therefore a great place to go to experience traditional Japan. The LCD preview on my camera was eating up the batteries, so I took Todd's advice and turned it off. Unfortunately, I wasn't accustomed to using the viewfinder, so I didn't frame this shot the way I wanted it. The kids are supposed to be in the very bottom left corner, so you can see the tops of the buildings in the top right. Oh well.
